Must Watch: What Nawaz Sharif's daughter has to say about PML-N's victory in PoK polls

Islamabad: People of PoK have voted for Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) because of its “people-friendly” Kashmir policy, Maryam Nawaz, the daughter of Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif said after the party's election victory.

PML-N is the front-runner in the “Azad Kashmir” general elections held on Thursday. The All Jammu and Kashmir Muslim Conference (AJKMC) and the Pakistan Tehreek Insaf (PTI) were in the second spot, grabbing two seats each. The Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) fared badly, with just one seat in its kitty.

Elections were held on 41 seats of the 49-member Legislative Assembly in PoK. As many as 423 candidates from 44 political parties were in the fray for 41 seats.

According to an exit poll, PML-N has bagged most number of seats.

The biggest upset perhaps was the defeat of PTI’s Barrister Sultan Mahmood in the hands of PML-N candidate Chaudhry Muhammad Saeed by over 3,000 votes. The Jammu and Kashmir Peoples Party (JKPP) chief Khalid Ibrahim won a solitary seat for the party.

Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif is expected to visit Muzaffarabad to congratulate the people for handing the party a large mandate.

The voter turnout was about 50 percent, the Express Tribune reported.
