Seven killed in road accident in Odisha

At least 7 people, including a woman, were killed and 5 others critically injured when a truck hit a mini-truck and a bus near Randha in Ganjam district on Thursday.

Berhampur: At least 7 people, including a woman, were killed and 5 others critically injured when a truck hit a mini-truck and a bus near Randha in Ganjam district on Thursday.

The mishap took place when a mini-truck was loading the vegetables procured from a nearby wholesale market onto a bus, when suddenly another truck hit both the static vehicles, Superintendent of Police (Berhampur), Sarthak Sarangi said.

The bus was meant to head towards Berhampur on NH-16, he said.

While six persons died on the spot, another succumbed to injuries in hospital. The injured were admitted to the MKCG Medical College and Hospital here and their condition was stated to be critical, he said.

The deceased included four vegetable retailers waiting near the static vehicles, driver of the truck and helper and conductor of the bus who were engaged in loading the vegetables, Sarangi said.

Ganjam Collector Prem Chandra Chaudhary has announced financial assistance to the families of the deceased.
