New Delhi: No one can have enough of microblogging website Twitter, it seems. As per reports, people in China, where Twitter has been banned, have found a sneaky way to access the website!

Quoting a source inside Twitter, TechCrunch has reported that the site has as many as around 10 million active users in China.

Twitter has a global user base amounting to 310 million, but China's population of 1.4 billion it seems, remains unaffected by the ban that was imposed on Twitter in 2009.

Furthermore, the report says, "That number itself is an estimate, one that is used internally because even Twitter isn't fully sure. That's because it is hugely challenging to tally up China-based users by virtue of them connecting to the service via virtual private network (VPN) software which allows them to use an internet connection outside of China, thus bypassing the country's web censorship system."

Previous estimates had pegged Twitter's China-based users at 35.5 million.
