Delhi: Pakistani journalist Qaiser Khokhar whose 'tauba tauba' (God forbid) video went viral after Narendra Modi landed in Lahore on December 25, told an Indian TV channel on Monday that the administration had erred by letting the Indian PM and his group enter the country without proper visas.
Talking to India Today, the C-42 channel reporter said that when PM Modi and his team arrived in Pakistan, he had called Lahore immigration and was told that they did not have transit visas.
He added, "After 20-25 minutes of us breaking the news the Pakistani administration said that the delegation had been given transit visa. The team was already at Nawaz Sharif's home by then."
Khokhar appeared to be in an aggressive mood and stated, "We will not let any anybody come to Pakistan without visa, especially Indians. This country is what it is today after much sacrifice."
On being asked about his much talked about exclamation, he said, "It was against the norm of Pakistan that PM Modi and his group came to our country without visas and thus it was a tauba tauba moment."
"You should also do tauba tauba," the Pakistani reporter told the anchor of the TV channel.
Khokhar said that when he broke the news everyone was clapping in his newsroom as he had highlighted a very important point.
Modi arrived in Pakistan, en route to Delhi from Kabul, to wish Pakistani PM on his 66th birthday with a huge team of 120 members.
As the plan had been made at a short notice, the Indian delegation had to land in Lahore without visas from Kabul.
While Modi and a few including national security adviser Ajit Doval, foreign secretary S Jaishankar and external affairs ministry spokesperson Vikas Swarup traveled with the PM to Sharif's palatial residence of Jati Umra Raiwind, others stayed behind at the airport.
This is what shocked the C-42 channel reporter who who did a link from the newsroom with 'tauba tauba' being part of his narrative.
He talked agitatedly, while holding both his ears, “For the first time in history, close to 120 people have landed in Pakistan without visas."
