Rajnath an 'object of pity' in Modi govt, says Digvijay Singh

Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh is an "object of pity" in the Narendra Modi dispensation, Congress leader Digvijay Singh said.

New Delhi: Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh is an "object of pity" in the Narendra Modi dispensation as PMO runs the government and as no important file goes to him he should quit if he has any "Kshatriya pride" left in him, Congress leader Digvijay Singh said on Tuesday.

"The whole government is being run through the PMO and Rajnath Singh is an object of pity. Neither any (important) file goes to him nor he takes decisions in the Appointments Committee of the Cabinet.

"What has happened to his Kshatriya pride. If it is there, he should resign instead of suffering insults," the Congress general secretary said at the party briefing.

The Congress leader, also a Kshatriya, latched on to the criticism of former Union Minister Arun Shourie of the functioning of the Modi government to target the Home Minister.

Singh claimed that Rajnath Singh was even not aware of the arrest of underworld don Chhota Rajan in Indonesia yesterday.

He claimed the way the whole thing has been carried out, there is suspicion that it was a surrender."Some sort of understanding appears to have been reached," he claimed.

The Congress leader lamented that BJP instead of taking Shourie's criticism in proper perspective has targeted him suggesting that the former Union Minister was taking his anger out for not being made an MP and a Minister.

Singh was especially critical of the Prime Minister for his "failure" to honour commitments to the farmers, which, he said, have fallen on bad days due to a host of issues ranging from unremunerative prices to their produce and unavailability of fertilisers.

Union Ministers Ram Vilas Paswan and Radha Mohan Singh, who are in charge of Food and Agriculture respectively, are busy campaigning in Bihar polls at a time when the prices of pulses have skyrocketed, he said.
