Intolerance debate: People who questioned me are biased against me, says Aamir Khan

Mumbai: Not too long ago Bollywood actor Aamir Khan had faced severe backlash for his views on 'growing intolerance' in the country.

However, on Monday, on the occasion of his 51st birthday, the actor stressed on the need to not react to all negative criticism directed at him.

Aamir Khan said speaking to the media, “People who questioned me are those who are biased against me. So no matter what I do, they will question. I don’t react to that. No matter who you are and what you have done in life, people question you. People doubt you. The important thing is you shouldn’t be negative,” as quoted by Indian Express.

He also said, “You should be positive and be aware of what you are doing. Your conscience should be clear. You should focus on your positivity and people’s positivity towards you. Negativity bahut hai. But majority are positive. Negative people shout out loud and hence we hear it more. But I feel 90 percent out here are positive.”

On a query on patriotism, Khan maintained, “Dil main prem hona zaroori hain. One has to be sensitive towards others and towards society. Patriotism for me is wanting to contribute towards improving the lives of others and yours in any way possible.”

Meanwhile, he tweeted the following for people who wished him on his birthday:

Aamir's statement last November that he was "alarmed" by a number of incidents and that his wife Kiran Rao even suggested that they should leave the country had caused a nationwide outrage.

After the controversy broke out over his remarks, Aamir had clarified that neither he nor his wife had any intention of leaving the country.
