New Delhi: Underworld don Dawood Ibrahim's close associate Chhota Shakeel, Monday, rejected the reports which said that the 1993 Mumbai blasts mastermind is suffering from gangrene and is unlikely to be cured fully.

Shakeel and senior intelligence officials confirmed to The Times of India that Dawood is fine.

Dawood's trusted aide said such rumours are being spread to hamper the D-Company. He claimed that the Indian agencies have wrong information and Dawood is perfectly fit.

Shakeel's clarification comes after CNN-News18 reported that Dawood, India’s most wanted terrorist, is suffering from gangrene and is at such an advanced stage that the underworld don is immobile and he is unlikely to be cured fully.

The report added that gangrene was caused by loss of effective local blood supply due to high BP blood sugar and doctors treating Dawood feel that soon they will have no option but to amputate his legs.

The mafia don is receiving treatment at his Clifton neighbourhood residence and is being treated at Liaquat National Hospital and Combined Military Hospital, both in Karachi.

Earlier in December 2015, reports were doing rounds that Dawood was set to bid adieu to the underworld and Chhota Shakeel will head the organised crime syndicate. However, the reports turned out be just rumours.

India has intensified its efforts to nab Dawood, the Mumbai-based gangster who fled the country in 1986.

Dawood is believed to be currently residing on the Clifton Road in Karachi.

The Narendra Modi-led government has repeatedly said that Dawood is in Pakistan and that India is determined to bring him back.

Pakistan has denied time and again the fugitive's presence on its soil.
