Delhi: Wife of Baba Hardev Singh, the Nirankari sect head who died in a car crash in Canada on May 13, has been made as the next head, as per a media report.
As per Hindustan Times, the announcement regarding Savinder Kaur was made on Tuesday evening.
She became the first woman and fifth head of the sect that was founded in 1929 and has 10 million followers.
Initially there were reports of Hardev Singh's youngest daughter, Sudeeksha, becoming the next sect head.
Singh's last rites will be performed at Delhi’s Nigam Bodh Ghat on Wednesday.
The Daily also quoted sources as saying that a 21-member committee that advises the Nirankari head on administrative matters had been discussing the succession plan.

A Nirankari International Samagam (NIS) was scheduled to be held in June in Toronto in Canada.
Hardev Singh was born to Gurbachan Singh and Kulwant Kaur on February 23, 1954 in Delhi.
After his early schooling at Rosary Public School, Sant Nirankari Colony, Delhi, he joined Yadavindra Public School, Patiala, a boarding school, in 1963.
On completion of his schooling, he studied in Delhi University. In 1971, he joined the Nirankari Sewa Dal as its primary member.
After the assassination of his father Gurbachan Singh, who was then head of the Sant Nirankari Mission in 1980, Hardev Singh succeeded as the 'Satguru' of the organisation.
Sant Nirankari Mission was established in 1929, by Buta Singh.
