New Delhi: A delegation of Aligarh Muslim University led by VC Lt Gen Zameer Uddin Shah on Saturday met Prime Minister Narendra Modi here with a list of demands including the restoration of minority character of the institute.

After the meeting Shah told reporters: “We had a 40 minutes meeting and we apprised the PM of the role AMU is playing in the country.”

He also said that they have been trying to meet HRD Minister Smriti Irani for the past one-and-a-half year and finally it has been scheduled for March 10.

“I explained to PM that Janata government of which BJP was part, in manifesto of 1980, had supported minority character of AMU,” Shah told media persons.

Other members of the delegation included AMU’s Pro-V-Brig (retd) S A Ali and Shia cleric Maulana Kalbe Sadiq.
