Tamil Nadu CM Jayalalithaa passed away on Monday at 1130 pm.
Chennai: Tamil Nadu Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa died here on Monday night at a private hospital after battling for life for the 75 days.
The 67-year-old leader, who suffered a massive cardiac arrest on Sunday evening, passed at 11:30 pm tonight, the Apollo Hospitals said in a statement.
Jayalalithaa, who scored a historic win in the Assembly elections in the state little over six months ago, was admitted to Apollo Hospitals on September 22 with fever and dehydration but she could never recover.

AIADMK legislators gathered at the Apollo Hospitals in Chennai amid speculation that the party was looking at a successor to Chief Minister J. Jayalalithaa.
The legislators have assembled inside a hall in the Apollo complex.
Jayalalithaa's condition is "extremely grave", Richard Beale, a London-based doctor who is assisting doctors here, said on Monday.

A team of doctors from Apollo Hospital, Chennai, is in regular touch with doctors in London.
Centre on Monday dispatched a team of specialists from the All India Institute of Medical Science to Apollo Hospital in Chennai where Tamil Nadu Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa is undergoing treatment after suffering cardiac arrest last evening.
Four specialists from AIIMS will soon be reaching Apollo Hospital.
The team of AIIMS doctors includes pulmonologist Dr GC Khilnani, anaesthetist Dr Anjan Trikha, cardiac surgeon Dr Sachin Talwar and cardiologist Dr Rajiv Narang.

Heavy deployment of police was made at the hospital on Greams Road where thousands of supporters of 'Amma' (mother), as she is fondly called by her supporters, and AIADMK cadre had gathered on hearing the news.
Ministers and top police officials also rushed to the hospital and held informal consultations on the situation.
Soon after the Apollo Hospitals statement came, Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh spoke to Tamil Nadu Governor Ch Vidyasagar Rao and enquired about Jayalalithaa's health.
Rao, who is also Governor of Maharashtra, rushed to Chennai from Mumbai and went to the hospital.
Dr Richard Beale from London has also been consulted and concurred with line of treatment by our cardiologists & pulmonologists, the hospital said.
"She is being treated and monitored by a team of experts, including cardiologists, pulmonologist and critical care specialists," Chief Operating Officer and head of transformation of Apollo Hospital Dr Subbaiah Viswanathan said in the statement on Sunday.
Security has been beefed up across the state with the Tamil Nadu DGP ordering all police officers and personnel to report for duty by Monday morning for deployment.
Apollo Hospitals, in a tweet late last night, said doctors were closely monitoring Jayalalithaa's condition and trying their "very best".
"Our doctors are closely monitoring Hon'ble CM's condition and they are trying their very best," Sangita Reddy, Joint Managing Director of Apollo Hospitals, tweeted.
68-year-old Jayalalithaa is "critical", she said in an earlier tweet, adding that the AIADMK chief was on extracorporeal membrane heart assist device and being treated by a team of expert doctors and critical care specialists.
