A top official of the state said that the drilling operation was completed. All 41 workers trapped inside the Silkyara tunnel in Uttarakhand since November 12, have been successfully rescued. The tunnel had caved in on November 12, leaving 41 workers stuck inside with no exit.

Immediately following the workers' emergence from the tunnel, a preliminary health checkup was conducted for all of them at a makeshift medical camp within the tunnel. Subsequently, they were transported to hospitals for further examination. Currently, all the workers are reported to be in good health. However, if any worker is found to be in critical condition, they will be transferred to AIIMS Rishikesh for advanced care.

Upon the successful completion of the rescue operation, Prime Minister Modi penned an emotional note expressing his sentiments for the trapped laborers and the dedicated rescuers who had worked tirelessly for the past 17 days to ensure their safe evacuation. PM Modi also had a telephonic conversation with all the workers who were safely evacuated from the Silkyara tunnel. Uttarakhand Tunnel Rescue Operation Live Updates: What Is Rat-Hole Mining?

Following a recent setback in the ongoing efforts to free 41 trapped workers from the collapsed Silkyara-Barkot tunnel, rescuers encountered another challenge on Sunday when the auger joint of the drilling machine broke. Over the past two days, the rescue team has been diligently working to address this issue by cutting through the blade lodged inside the rescue pipes and extracting it piece by piece. Despite facing obstacles such as large metal pieces impeding the drilling machine and causing auger breakage, the rescuers successfully drilled through the remaining few meters using a technique akin to rat-hole mining.
