UP Nagar Nikay Chunav Results: Of the 544 posts of chairman of Nagar Panchayat, the ruling BJP won 191 while independents bagged 195. The SP won 78 such posts, BSP 37 and the Congress 14.

Independent candidates asserted themselves on the seats of Nagar Panchayat members as well, winning 4,824 of 7,177 seats. The BJP bagged 1,403 seats, followed by the SP with 485, BSP 215, Congress 77 and the RLD 38.

UP elections: The electoral battle for members of Nagar Palika Parishad saw independent candidates bagging 3,130 out of 5,327 posts (58.76 per cent). The BJP stood a distant second with 1,360 seats, followed by the SP with 425, BSP 191, Congress 91, RLD 40, AIMIM 33 and AAP 30.

UP urban local body poll results 2023: The ruling BJP has won 813 out of the 1,420 seats in the corporators category in Uttar Pradesh's urban local body polls, while the opposition Samajwadi Party bagged 191 and the Bahujan Samaj Party 85. Congress also received 77 seats, AIMIM 19, Rashtriya Lok Dal 10, Aam Aadmi Party eight, and Azad Samaj Party (Kanshiram) five, while the Indian Union Muslim League, Jan Adhikar Party, Peace Party and the NISHAD party clinched one seat each.

As per the State Election Commission (SEC), the result of only one seat -- Nagar Panchayat chairperson of Khetsarai in Jaunpur district -- is awaited.

BJP sweeps municipal polls in UP, wins all 17 mayoral seats

The Bharatiya Janata Party has swept the Uttar Pradesh urban local body polls winning the Mayoral seats of all 17 municipal corporations besides 90 posts of municipality chairman and over 600 wards.

The BJP candidates also won from Meerut and Aligarh, which the party had lost to Mayawati's Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) during the last civic bodies elections.

Besides, BJP's Archana Verma was elected as the first mayor of Shajahanpur, which went to polls for the first time this year after becoming a municipal corporation.

Out of the 17 mayoral candidates fielded by the BJP, 14 were new while the party had placed bets on the outgoing mayors in Kanpur, Bareilly and Moradabad.

Four BJP candidates achieved the distinction of becoming mayors for the second time.

While Pramila Pandey from Kanpur, Vinod Agarwal from Moradabad and Umesh Gautam Anwarat from Bareilly became the mayor for the second time in a row, Harikant Ahluwalia has been the mayor of Meerut earlier also.

UP local body election results 2023: Archana Verma of BJP has won the maiden mayoral election to Shahjahanpur Municipal Corporation, defeating Congress' Nikhat Iqbal by a margin of more than 30,000 votes. According to the State Election Commission (SEC), Verma got 80,762 votes (49.5 per cent) and Iqbal 50,484 votes (30.94 per cent). Mala Rathora of the Samajwadi Party polled 20,155 votes (12.35 per cent).

Shahjahanpur was made a municipal corporation in 2018, a year after the last urban local body elections were held in the state. This time, the seat was reserved for a woman candidate from Other Backward Classes.
