Sudip Roy Barman, who came out of the BJP, saved the face of the Congress by winning the Agartala seat. The minister in Biplab Deb's cabinet returned to his old party after a rift with the chief minister. He was the Congress' bet in the by-election. However, the BJP won the remaining three seats.

Tripura Bypolls Town Bordawali: Winner Manik Saha got 18,870 votes

The results of by-elections to four assembly constituencies in Tripura were announced on Sunday. This is the first time Tripura Chief Minister Manik Saha has contested the polls and won. Manik got 16,870 votes from Baradwali constituency. Two-time Congress MLA Ashish Saha got 10,930 votes.

The Trinamool, which made Tripura a bird's eye, could not produce promising results in any of the four seats. They have a terrible result in all centers. For example, in Town Baradwali constituency, Trinamool's heavyweight candidate Sanhita Bhattacharya got only 986 votes. On the other hand, the Left candidate got 3,376 votes. In fact, by-elections to four assembly constituencies in Tripura on Sunday also saw a saffron storm. The Trinamool, on the other hand, got an average of 3 per cent of the votes.

After the Triputa bypolls, there is a hint of tension as the BJP has been accused of attacking the Congress headquarters in Agartala. However, they denied the allegations.

Manik Saha on Tripura Bypolls victory

"The people who voted for me, I thank them. This is the victory of BJP workers. I expected the margin to be a bit more. However, the results prove the understanding between the CPI(M) and Congress. We will work accordingly in the future, but people did not take this understanding in a good way," the chief minister told reporters as quoted by PTI.

Tripura Bypolls: Security measures amid counting

For those joining us right now, to prevent violence, the election Commission has undertaken precautionary measures such as imposing prohibitory orders 144 CrPc within 200 metre radius of the counting centres. In addition, central forces will be present around the counting venues.

For those joining us right now, in the Town Bordowali Assembly constituency, Chief Minister Manik Saha is contesting against five other candidates. The bypolls were required after the death of CPI-M legislator Ramendra Chandra Debnath and resignation of 3 BJP MLAs.

Tripura Bypolls: Quick look at the trends of 3 constituencies

1) In Agartala constituency, Sudip Roy Barman of the Congress is ahead of the BJP by 1512 votes. The BJP is second in 4825. CPM 2826. The TMC is much less than 1000. It is likely that the security deposit will be forfeited.

2) In Town Bordowali constituency, Chief Minister Manik Saha is leading with 6057 votes, Congress 4281, CPM 1181, Trinamool 376. It is likely that the security deposit of TMC will be forfeited. 

3) BJP's Molina Devi leading by 2267 votes in Jubarajnagar. The CPM is the second 7907. Congress 884, Trinamool 684. It is likely that the security deposit of TMC will be forfeited.

Chief Minister Manik Saha, who is not a member of the assembly, is contesting from the Town Bardowali assembly constituency. He has to win this election to continue as the chief minister. (PTI)

Tripura Bypolls: Results of Agartala, Town Bordowali, Surma, and Jubarajnagar Assembly constituencies has been marked as the semi-final of the forthcoming Assembly polls in the state by political analysts.

Meanwhile, the counting of votes in Rampur, Azamgarh Lok Sabha bypolls, Sangrur LS bypolls and Rajinder Nagar bypolls has begun amid high security arrangements to prevent any disturbances. (PTI)
