The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has emerged victorious in Gujarat as well as Himachal Pradesh, and the Assembly election results has led to celebration by party cadres in different parts of the country. Senior party leaders of the party and BJP chief ministers lauded the party leadership for the victory in both the state.

The result also gave an opportunity to some to target the newly elected president of the Congress party, Rahul Gandhi. Attacking the Congress leadership, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath said the leadership change in the opposition party was a positive indication for the BJP.

“I had said earlier itself that the leadership change in Congress will be a positive indication for the BJP,” said Adityanath.

He further said that the people of Gujarat had rejected the “divisive politics of Congress”, adding the victory in Gujarat and Himachal Pradesh came because of “dynamic leadership of BJP and the hard work of BJP workers”.

Meanwhile, Union minister Smriti Irani lauded the BJP leadership and refuted the theory of better performance by the Congress party saying, “jo jeeta wohi sikandar”.

Speaking to Zee News, she took a dig at Congress president Rahul Gandhi saying he tried to cheat the God and got cheated himself instead.

The BJP blamed the loss of seats, in comparison to 2012 Gujarat Assembly elections, on caste factor, accusing the Congress party of playing the caste factor to mislead people of Gujarat.

Speaking to Zee News, senior leader and BJP spokesperson GVL Narasimha Rao said that the Congress party distracted the voters in Gujarat with the issue of caste.

“Since the beginning of the campaign in Gujarat, the Congress has played the caste card. And it divided people on the basis of caste. That was the reason for the Congress to succeed in the state,” said Rao.

However, the Congress refuted the charges saying it was a detailed manifesto, talking about the real issues of Gujarat, that led to the better performance of the Congress party in comparison to 2012.
