New Delhi: This oral health day, let's all take a pledge to keep our teeth, gums and mouth clean as a little inattentiveness can cost us a lot.

World oral health day is celebrated worldwide on 20 March in order to create awareness about oral hygiene.

 

Several risk factors that can cause oral disease include tobacco use, excess intake of sugar, consuming fizzy drinks too often.

Here are some essential oral hygiene rituals that should be followed regularly:

 

Brush twice a day

It is important to brush twice a day and take some time to brush. Oral experts say that at least 2-3 minutes should be taken to clean all the areas properly.

In addition, choose the right kind of tooth brush and make sure to change it every 2 to 3 months.

Drink plenty of water

Make sure that you consume enough water daily as dry mouth can increase the risk of gum disease. Water helps in keep the areas of the mouth moist all the time, prevents tooth decay and fights germs.

Tongue scraper is a must

Using a tongue scraper is a must as it helps in the removal of bacteria and mitigates bad breath. There is a possibility of germs accumulating on the surface of the tongue which make it essential to use a scraper.

Dental Floss

There are some areas inside the mouth which cannot be cleaned without a flossing. It helps in removing food particles that barec accumulated between teeth and gums.

Excess flossing is prohibited.
