New Delhi: Eyes are the most valuable and sensitive organs and need special care. But with the increased use of smartphones and poor nutrition, many people suffer from poor eyesight. Negligence is one of the reasons behind poor eye health. Though eating a healthy balanced diet can help retain your eyesight, but there are other ways as well by which you can keep a check on your eyes. 

Here are a few tips to protect and keep your vision in good shape:

Wear glasses or goggles

One should always wear glasses or goggles when outside, especially in summer to protect the eyes from the UV rays.

Stay hydrated

Drinking lots of water help you stay hydrated. It also prevents dryness of the eyes due to high moisture content.

Increase omega-3 intake

Increase the intake of omega-3 fish oil in your diet as it can help stimulate tear production and keep the eyes lubricated thereby lowering the risk of dry eyes.

Use eye drops

If you are suffering from dry eyes frequently, then start using eye drops. But make sure that you consult a doctor before using eye drops.

Eat healthy food

Include green, leafy vegetables, salmon, tuna and eggs nuts that are loaded with nutrients like omega-3 fatty acids, lutein, zinc and vitamins A, C and E in your diet to keep your vision clear and ward off age-related problems such as macular degeneration and cataracts.

Have regular eye check-up

One should visit an eye doctor regularly to retain healthy eyesight and detection of eye problems if any.
