3 months after arrival in Abu Dhabi hospital, Eman Ahmed shows immense improvement - Watch

New Delhi: The world has religiously followed the story of the woman once dubbed 'the world's heaviest'.

Eman Ahmed's journey from being the 'world's heaviest woman' to now being a lighter version of herself has been a bumpy, chaotic and controversial one.

After her surgery in Mumbai's Saifee Hospital, the 36-year-old was shifted to Abu Dhabi's Burjeel Hospital for further treatment three months ago.

Besides that, the Egyptian native has undergone several psychiatric sessions to improve her psychological condition along with mobility.

Eman, who once weighed over 500 kilos, is now just a little over 150 kilos, although doctors refused to share her exact weight.

She has previously been recorded singing, moving her hands to music, clapping and winking. As per a report in the Indian Express, she has shown major improvement and is able to sit for long durations and eat on her own.

At the press conference that took place in Burjeel Hospital, she was a far cry from the patient who left India amidst chaos, laughing, speaking in full sentences and joking with her doctors, a report in DNA said.

Dr Yassin Sahat, chief medical officer, Burjeel Hospital, Abu Dhabi, said, “When Eman was brought from Mumbai, she was going through severe depression. We have used a multi-disciplinary approach to treat her where obesity is just one of the issues,” DNA reported.

Furthermore, she is likely to undergo liposuction and abdominoplasty in mid-August to remove extra fat and lose skin, along with a number of plastic surgeries to level her skin according to her weight, the Indian Express report stated.

To address the issue of growing obesity in the world and how it is affecting children and adults alike, Dr Shamsheer Vayalil, the managing director of VPS Healthcare, said that post her treatment, Eman will be made the ambassador for obesity treatment in order to help spread awareness on childhood and adult obesity, treatment and nutrition intake.

“Her hospitalisation can continue for another year. We still have to improve her leg mobility. A correction surgery will be done in knee, hip and joints. Currently her leg muscles are too weak to take the load of body which is why she cannot stand,” said Dr Nehad Halawa, deputy medical director, the Indian Express report said.
