Dengue death case: Fortis Hospital denies offering Rs 25 lakh bribe to 7-yr-old's father

NEW DELHI: The Fortis Hospital on Thursday denied the allegations of bribe levelled against it by the father of the seven-year-old girl, who died of dengue. 

The hospital, however, agreed to have offered a refund of his entire medical bill. 

"We categorically deny assertions or allegations of any bribe being paid to Jayant Singh. Fortis did offer a refund of the out-of-pocket expenses incurred by the family," Fortis Hospital was quoted as saying by news agency ANI.

A day before, on Wednesday, father of the minor child accused the hospital of offering him a total of Rs 35,37,889 for assuring to stop his social media campaign and any legal action against them.

"Senior members of Fortis had met me and offered me a cheque worth Rs 10,37,889 refunding the entire amount. They also said they will be offering me Rs 25 lakh cash on top of this, saying I will have to sign and enter into a legal agreement assuring to stop my social media campaign, or going to court and taking legal action against them," Singh was quoted as saying by ANI.

The Haryana government had ordered the probe allegations against a Gurugram- based private hospital for overcharging the family of a 7- year-old girl, who died of dengue. 

The girl was admitted to the Fortis Memorial Research Institute (FMRI), Gurugram in September this year. The parents of the girl alleged that they were billed Rs 16 lakh, which also included the cost of 2,700 gloves. 

The hospital had earlier refuted the charges, claiming that the patient's family was informed about the bill on a daily basis and that there was no medical negligence.
