Lionel Messi To Leave PSG After Two Years, To Play Last Match For Club On THIS Date

Lionel Messi will be leaving Paris Saint-Germain at the end of the season after two years at the club, coach Christophe Galtier said on Thursday. PSG’s game against Clermont on Saturday will be Messi's last match at the Parc des Princes, says Galtier. "I had the privilege of coaching the best player in the history of soccer," Galtier said. "This will be his last match at the Parc des Princes, and I hope that he will receive the warmest of welcomes."

The 2022 World Cup-winner's next move is not known yet. As per reports, he is likely to join a club in Major Soccer League in USA or follow the footsteps of his long-time rival Cristiano Ronaldo, who plays for Al-Nassr club in Saudi League after his association ended with Manchester United.

This season, Messi contributed with 21 goals and 20 assists for PSG. PSG won the Ligue 1 titles in both the seasons of his stay. In total, Messi scored 32 goals in 74 games for PSG across competitions and seasons. Not to forget, his 23 assists. He had joined the elite French club after his association of 21 years with Barcelona FC had ended in 2021.

PSG brought massive World Cup luck for Messi as he became a world champion last year when Argentina beat France in the final. He also won the men's footballer of the year at The Best FIFA Football Awards in February 2023.

Speaking more on coaching Messi at PSG, Galtier said that the Argentina legend was always there for the team throughout the season. He said, "This year, he has been an important part of the team, always available. I don't think any of the comments or criticisms are justified. He's always been there for the team. It's been a great privilege to accompany him throughout the season."
