Tajinder Pal Singh Bagga - who led violent campaigns against 'anti-nationals' - appointed Delhi BJP spokesman

New Delhi: Buoyed by its resounding victory in the recently concluded assembly elections 2017, the BJP has now initiated structural changes in its Delhi unit and the appointment Tajinder Pal Singh Bagga as its spokesperson is one such move.

Bagga, who is extremely popular on Twitter, with over two lakh followers, has been close to the BJP and the RSS leadership ever since he began his stint in the public life.

Bagga is known to have led violent campaigns against several public figures for their alleged anti-national act in past. He is also the founder of an internet-savvy group called ‘Bhagat Singh Kranti Sena’ which was projected as a ‘task force against traitors, anti-nationals and corrupts (sic)’.

Bagga and his group had in 2011 assaulted then AAP leader Prashant Bhushan in his chamber for supporting a referendum on whether the people in Kashmir wanted to stay with India or not.

Tagged as ‘Operation Prashant Bhushan’ on Twitter, Bagga nad his men had stormed into Bhushan’s chamber while he was addressing a press briefing on the issue and thrashed him badly.

Bagg also later shared pictures of the assault on Bhushan on Twitter.

Claiming credit for the attack, Bagga had even posted on Twitter : 'he try to break my Nation, i try to break his head. Hisab chukta. Congrats to all. operation Prashant Bhushan successful [sic].’

In one another incident, Bagg and his men defaced walls around the Pakistan High Commission and shouted in support of freedom for Balochistan.

Bagga's group also disrupted a seminar being addressed by Arundhati Roy on her book ‘Broken Republic’, which voiced ‘pro-separatist’ sentiments in context of Kashmir.

In 2012, Bagga's outfit targeted Swami Agnivesh following his reactions over news reports that a Visva-Bharati University girl was forced to drink urine by her hostel warden for bedwetting.

Bagg started an online news and opinion blog dedicated to Narendra Modi called the 'NaMo Patrika' in 2015. 

The activities of Bagga's group was noticed by the BJP leadership and, on July 1, 2015, he was hosted by the Prime Minister at his official residence on Lok Kalyan Marg, along with 149 pro-right other media influencers in an event called #super150.

By elevating Bagga, BJP hopes to woo youth, especially Sikhs, to the party ahead of the crucial civic polls scheduled to be held on April 22.
