New Delhi: A day after ruling Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) faced a defeat in the MCD polls, party's Punjab in-charge Sanjay Singh resigned from his post on Thursday.
Singh confirmed his decision to resign on his official Twitter account.
The senior AAP leader said, “I have sent my resignation to AAP convenor Arvind Kejriwal.”
Th Delhiites rejected the AAP barely after two years of its meteoric rise in the 2015 Assembly polls when it had clinched an unprecedented 67 of the Assembly 70 seats.
Singh's announced the decision after Dilip Pandey on Wednesday resigned from the post of AAP Delhi Convenor.
With the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) sweeping the Delhi municipal polls, opposition Aam AAP and Congress leaders offered to quit on moral grounds while also blaming the electronic voting machines (EVMs) used in the polls for their debacle.
AAP won just 48 wards out of the 272 spread across the three municipal corporations South Delhi Municipal Corporation (SDMC), North Delhi Municipal Corporation (NDMC), East Delhi Municipal Corporation (EDMC).
Riding on a Modi wave and defeating anti-incumbency, the BJP won 181 seats. Congress could win just 30 seats.
Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal refrained from raising the EVM tampering issue, unlike other AAP leaders and promised all cooperation to the civic bodies for the betterment of the national capital.
मैंने पंजाब के प्रभारी पद से अपना इस्तीफ़ा राष्ट्रीय संयोजक @ArvindKejriwal जी को दे दिया है, दुर्गेश ने भी सह प्रभारी पद छोड़ा।— Sanjay Singh AAP (@SanjayAzadSln) April 27, 2017
