WATCH: Prithvi Shaw Attacked in Mumbai For Denying Selfie; Oshiwara Police Register Complaint Against 8 People

Indian cricketer Prithvi Shaw was attacked in Mumbai but fortunately was able to escape safely. A total of 8 people have been alleged to attack the 23-year-old, who was sitting in his friend's car. The reason for the attack is being reported that the attackers were refused from the Delhi Capitals opener for a 'selfie'.

Prithvi Shaw's refusal for a selfie was not tolerated by the attackers who started pelting stones at his friend's car. Mumbai Police has registered a case against 8 people connected to the incident.

Oshiwara Police have booked eight people under several sections of the Indian Penal Code (143, 148, 149, 384, 437, 504, 506) after the incident.

The accused also chased the vehicle of Prithvi Shaw`s friend.Out of the eight accused, two have been identified as Sapna Gill and Shobhit Thakur. As per the complainant, Shaw had gone to a five-star hotel in Santacruz for dinner with his friends when some unknown people came near their table and insisted on a selfie.

The cricketer obliged two people with selfies but after some time the same group returned, demanding to take selfies again. Shaw refused, saying he has come to eat food with friends and doesn`t want to be disturbed. When they insisted on taking selfies, Prithvi`s friend called the hotel manager and complained about them. After this, the hotel manager asked the accused to leave the hotel.

When Shaw and his friend came out of the hotel after having dinner, the accused were waiting outside the hotel and attacked them with baseball bats and smashed the front and rear windows of their car.

Hence, Shaw was sent in another car. The accused also chased the vehicle of Prithvi Shaw`s friend. Shaw`s friend`s car was stopped near Jogeshwari`s Lotus petrol pump. Where a lady came near the car and started abusing them. The complainant further claimed that the lady even demanded Rs 50,000, otherwise she will file a false case.

After this incident, the complainant reached Oshiwara Police Station and filed a case, the police registered a case. Further investigation is underway. Shaw is not a regular in the Indian cricket team but is one of the most popular athletes in the country.

Back in 2013, he was compared to the likes of great Sachin Tendulkar. Shaw wrote his name in the history books after he broke the record of Tendulkar when he scored a knock of 546 in a Harris Shield match in 2013.

Recently, Shaw's Instagram handle had uploaded a picture with actress Nidhi Tapadia referring her as his wife. Within a few minutes, Shaw deleted the picture and explained that someone edited that photo requesting people to not believe what was posted on his Instagram. (With ANI inputs)
