New Delhi:Jaydev Shah became the first cricketer to play in 100 Ranji Trophy matches as captain when he led Saurashtra at Delhi’s Karnail stadium against Vidarbha on November 21.

“It is a memorable feeling. I need to thank my association (Saurashtra Cricket Association), fellow players and the support staff for showing faith in me and giving me this responsibility. It is a proud feeling to become the first person to captain a team in 100 Ranji Trophy matches,” Jaydev was quoted as saying by BCCI.TV.

The 33-year-old is the son of former BCCI secretary Niranjan Shah. The left-handed batsman made his first class debut in 2002 and since then has represented Saurashtra in 111 matches.

In 2015, he broke the record for most number of Ranji Trophy matches as captain, when he upstaged Haryana captain Ravinder Chadha's tally of 83 matches.

Under Jaydev's leadership, Saurashtra reached Ranji finals in 2012-13 and 2015-16. But they managed to win the Vijaya Hazare Trophy in 2008.

He has scored 4813 runs in 111 first-class matches at an average of 29.16, with a career high score of 217. He has nine centuries and 18 fifties.
