Vijay Mallya to be extradited? UK government certifies India's request
Absconding liquor baron Vijay Mallya who is facing charges of loan default to the tune of nearly Rs 9,000 crore may be extradited, as per a report in a TV channel.
New Delhi: Absconding liquor baron Vijay Mallya who is facing charges of loan default to the tune of nearly Rs 9,000 crore may be extradited.
The Ministry of External Affairs passed on the request for the Mallya's extradition to the UK magistrate who may issue an arrest warrant. The request has been certified by the UK State Secretary.
"Fugitive industrialist Vijay Mallya's extradition request has been certified by British Secretary of the State," PTI has reported quoting MEA.
The government said yesterday that ten requests by India for extradition of fugitive criminals including Mallya, are pending with the UK,
In a written reply in Rajya Sabha, Minister of State for External Affairs V K Singh said in the last five year, only one fugitive criminal Samirbhai Vinubhai Patel, has been extradition from the UK.
India and the UK have an extradition treaty in force since 1993, he noted.
