BSNL to upgrade broadband speed to 2mbps from Oct

State-run telecom service provider Bharat Sanchar Nigam Ltd (BSNL) would upgrade the minimum broadband speed across users to 2 mbps from next month at no additional cost.

Chennai: State-run telecom service provider Bharat Sanchar Nigam Ltd (BSNL) would upgrade the minimum broadband speed across users to 2 mbps from next month at no additional cost.

The minimum broadband speed will be increased from 512 kbps to 2 mbps for customers at "no extra cost" from October one, 2015, BSNL said in a statement.

The move to upgrade the speed of its broadband was inthe backdrop of Prime Minister's Digital India initiative. The Digital India Project, aims to connect all gram panchayats by broadband Internet, promote e-governance and transform India into a connected knowledge economy.

BSNL coinciding with festival season also launched "Pudhu Vasantham" scheme that comes with life time validity.

The new scheme offers calls at 80 paise per second across any network and 1,000 free seconds across BSNL customers for three months, it said.
