Mumbai: Being a superstar is not enough to survive in Mumbai. That’ what it seems like, especially when a Bollywood major is rebuffed by an auto rickshaw driver!
Recently, an auto driver refused to ply actor John Abraham from his home to a nearby hotel. Even though it’s hard to believe why a celeb like John Abraham would need an auto-rickshaw to commute, the fact cannot be ignored that one cannot escape refusals from the city`s auto rickshaw drivers. Talking to daily, John said, “Being brought up in a middle-class family, I have commuted via rickshaws, buses and trains. So I know the kind of problems commuters face when autos refuse to ply.” When John enquired with auto driver, A Sharma, why he wouldn’t ply, the driver said that it was an extremely short distance fare and could be easily covered on foot and that he preferred plying to a short distance fare only when he had time. Meanwhile, on the refusals faced by commuters, Additional Commissioner of Police (Traffic) Brijesh Singh, said, "If a meter is kept on hire, then the commuters must directly board the vehicle. If the commuters follow this and stop asking the drivers before boarding their auto or taxi, the problem of refusal will not arise."
