New Delhi: The Enforcement Directorate (ED) on Tuesday questioned Mohit Goel, CEO of Ringing Bells –the manufacturing company of Freedom 251 smartphone, as per media reports.
As per a report in the Quint, the ED is questioning Goel in connection with the pricing of the phone.
Notably, the smartphone was launched last month with a jaw-dropping price of Rs 251 only which raised several questions on the company's business model.
ED has begun enquiry into the matter, suspecting that the company might run away with customers' money that it has recieved as payment from online booking of the phone.
As the makers of the smartphone went gaga over being part of Prime Minister Narendra Modi`s "Make in India" and "Digital India" initiatives in last few days, a top government official clarified on Thursday that the government has nothing to do with "Freedom 251" smartphone.
Meanwhile, Ringing Bells has promised to return money to 30,000 customers who pre-booked the device on the first day of the sale. The company said that the refund will reach their accounts any time this week.
