Ford to launch new-look Figo hatchback on 23 September

Following the immediate success of the Figo Aspire compact sedan, Ford is set to continue its hot streak by launching the next generation Figo hatch in India on 23 September.

The Figo Aspire compact created a lot of hype in its segment by offering a fantastic value package with several class-leading features and good driving ability especially on Indian roads. In fact, the car was so successful that in the month of August, it look second place in terms of sales in the compact sedan segment, falling short only of the ever popular Maruti Suzuki Dzire.

In line with its renewed attempt at capturing the average Indian automobile consumer, Ford is on the cusp of launching the hatchback version of the Figo Aspire which will replace the current Figo. The new Figo shares its exterior design lingo with its sedan sibling sans a boot extension.

Which means it’s going to be a great looking little car. In all honesty, my only qualm with the Aspire was the abrupt boot that juts out the back and by doing away with it completely, the Figo is bound to look a lot more proportionally balanced. From the insides, the Figo will feature all the same gizmos that come with the Aspire such as a multi-function steering wheel, Ford SYNC multimedia system, airbags, climate control, etc.

Even the engine and transmission specifications are bound to be the same as the Aspire. Ford will launch the Figo with three engine types - 1.2-litre Ti-VCT petrol, 1.5-litre Ti-VCT petrol and a 1.5-litre TDCi diesel. While the 1.2 petrol and 1.5 diesel will come paired with a 5-speed manual transmission box, the 1.5 petrol variant will be made available with a 6-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission.

The confirmed price and specifications lists will be available post the launch announcement on 23 September.
