Iran Launches Large Missile Attack At Israel, IDF Says 'Few Casualties Reported, Calm Restored'

Iran has announced that it launched dozens of missiles into Israel in retaliation for the deaths of a Hezbollah leader and a Hamas official, as reported by the Associated Press. The statement warned that any military response from Israel would be met with a stronger retaliation.

An Israeli military spokesperson indicated that there were very few injuries resulting from the Iranian missile strike and that the public could now leave bomb shelters. The White House confirmed that President Joe Biden has ordered the US military to assist Israel in intercepting Iranian missiles. Shortly before this, the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) reported that missiles had been fired from Iran towards Israel.

Israel’s airport authority has closed the country’s airspace, diverting incoming flights to other airports. This closure was announced following reports from the Israeli military about the missile launches. Air raid sirens were activated across the country, urging citizens to seek shelter, with explosions heard in Tel Aviv and near Jerusalem.

Meanwhile, reacting to the escalating conflict, UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres taking to X said. "I condemn the broadening of the Middle East conflict with escalation after escalation. This must stop. We absolutely need a ceasefire."

Throughout the country, sirens have been sounding, and the IDF has advised Israelis to stay alert and closely follow home front command instructions. Reports indicate that Israel's gas platforms in the Mediterranean Sea may have been damaged during the missile attack.
