Nobel Prize 2022: The Nobel Prize in Chemistry jointly awarded to Carolyn R. Bertozzi, Morten Meldal and K. Barry Sharpless “for the development of click chemistry and bioorthogonal chemistry.” The Nobel Committee explained that click chemistry is a crucial component in the creation of materials that are better suited for the purpose as well as for the development of pharmaceuticals and for mapping DNA. They claimed that bioorthogonal reactions had aided scientists in enhancing the targeting of cancer drugs.

K Barry Sharpless was the fifth person to double up on the Nobel Prize. Only four Nobel prize winners Bardeen, Marie Skodowska Curie, Linus Pauling, and Frederick Sanger—have won the award twice. In 2001, Sharpless received the Nobel Prize. The chemistry Nobel prize was given to researchers Benjamin List and David WC MacMillan last year for developing a clever, ecologically friendly method of creating molecules that is "already tremendously benefiting humankind," according to the Nobel committee.

Three scientists jointly won the prize in physics on Tuesday. Small particles can maintain a connection with one another even after being separated, a phenomenon known as quantum entanglement, which can be used for specialised computing and to encrypt data. This was demonstrated by the Frenchman Alain Aspect, the American John F Clauser, and the Austrian Anton Zeilinger.
