The mountain got its name when Thomas George Montgomerie was working for a Great Trigonometrical Survey of India and saw 2 peaks in Karakoram and named one peak K1 and the other K2.
The K2 Mountain is 8,611 meters tall and is the Second Highest Mountain in the world after Mount Everest.
The first summit held for K2 was in 1954 and was held by a team of 2 Italians named Lino Lacedelli and Achille Compagnoni.
The Second Summit of K2 took place after 23 years in 1977. The summit was a Joint Expedition between Pakistan and Japan. Ashraf Aman (First Pakistani to climb K2) was also present there.
As K2 is the second highest mountain in the world, it has a 25% chance of killing people who try to climb it.
It is considered as a deadly and dangerous mountain as it is very remote, steep and many strong storms are caused here.
A Polish Woman was the first woman to climb K2 and reach its Summit. But soon she died, and it was believed by other climbers that the mountain is cursed for women climbers.
