Directed by Sudipto Sen, the Kerala Story tells the story of four women and how from being regular college students in Kerala, they became part of a terror organisations.
The film has courted controversy for portraying itself as a 'real story' and for making alleged false claims that thousands of women from Kerala are being converted to Islam and recruited into ISIS.
Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan has slammed "The Kerala Story", terming it part of "Sangh Parivar propaganda" aimed at political gains.
Congress MP Shashi Tharoor too has slammed the movie. "It may be your Kerala story. It is not our Kerala story."
The Congress urged the government not to give permission to screen the controversial movie as it aimed to create "communal divisions in society through false claims".
The Democratic Youth Federation of India (DYFI), the youth wing of the ruling CPI(M), had also lashed out against the film and said its trailer itself hurt religious sentiments and sought stern action against it.
Actress Adah Sharmahas said that the movie is about life and death and is not a propaganda film.
