Known as the hero of Kargil, he was instrumental in recapturing the peak 5140, which overlooked the Tololing Nullah. During the mission, he chose ‘Yeh Dil Maange More’ as their success signal.
He was the youngest person to be awarded Param Veer Chakra. He was part of the Ghatak Platoon and was assigned to capture three strategic bunkers situated at the top of a steep around 16500 feet high cliff on Tiger Hill.
He and his team were tasked to clear the enemy troops. Under intensive enemy fire, the brave and severely injured officer maintained his attack, eventually capturing Jaubar Top and Khalubar Hill in the Batalik region.
With only three months of duty, the officer showed unyielding tenacity by leading a team over a difficult and dangerous route under intense artillery shelling for more than 12 hours.
He led his company to victory, was shot from enemy positions, ordered a Rocket Launcher detachment to engage, and rushed into the position, killing two people in close quarters action.
On July 4, 1999, he commanded an attack column that took Flat Top of Point 4875 in Mushkoh Valley. However, automatic firing from Sangars caused the column to stall.
He led a company through heavy artillery and automatic fire, surviving intensive bombardment and a brief pause before engaging in hand-to-hand battle and killing three soldiers.
