Along with Orissa (Alteration of Name) Bill, 2010, the Constitution (113th Amendment) bill was approved to change the state’s name from Orrisa to Odisha. Also the name of its language from Oriya to Odia was also changed.
After Independence Madras Presidency became Madras Province. In 1969, the state was renamed Tamil Naidu by Annadurai’s Government.
After Independence, Madhya Bharat was created by merging 25 princely states. In 1956, the state was renamed Madhya Pradesh.
In 2006 Uttaranchal was renamed to Uttarakhand after the bill was passed and signed by late president A P J Abdul Kalam.
After Independence, princely states of Rampur, Banaras and Tehri-Garwal were merged into United Provinces. Later in 1950 it was renamed as Uttar Pradesh.
