Lucknow: As Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath and Home Minister Rajnath Singh flagged the city's first Metro rail on Tuesday, a war of words between BJP and Samajwadi Party over claiming credit for the project took place on Twitter.

It began when television aired a commercial showcasing the Lucknow Metro with a video message from Uttar Pradesh CM Yogi Adityanath. In the commercial, CM Adityanath asserted that Prime Minister Narendra Modi's dream would finally be realised as Lucknow Metro is all set to be launched.

Soon after the commercial was aired, Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav took to Twitter to vent out his anger over the credit given to the central government for the Lucknow metro project.

"Before sitting in the metro rail brought by Samajwadi Party members, the government must arrange to provide care to the five thousand unclassified animals roaming on the streets of Lucknow (Samajwadiyon dwara banayi gayi behtareen metro mein baithne se pehle, Lucknow sadko par ghum rahe paanch hazaar lawaris jaanwaro ke paalan poshan ka intejam kare sarkar)," he tweeted.

"The Lucknow Metro will remind the people of Shreedharan Ji and the team that worked to make this dream come true. Congratulations to the team and thank you (Lucknow Metro, Logo Ko Shreedharan Ji aur us team ki yaad dilayegi jisne hamare is sapne ko sach kar dikhaya. Sabko Dhanywad aur Badhai)," Akhilesh said in a series of tweets.

"The engine had started long back, the coaches had to follow (Engine to Pehle Chal Dia tha, Dibbe to piche aane hi the)," he tweeted again.

After Yadav's tweet, the official Twitter handle of the UP Chief Minister retorted with a reply. "Lucknow’s wait is over. The Lucknow Metro has come to make the dreams come true (Pradesh Ki Rajdhani Lucknow Ka Intezar khatam. Sapno ko Haqeeqat me badalne aa rahi hai Lucknow Metro)," he tweeted with a short clip of Lucknow metro.
