Bannet Dosanjh becomes India’s first ‘Rising Star’

Mumbai: Bannet Dosanjh, who hails from the same village as ‘Udta Punjab’ actor and Bollywood’s latest sensation – Diljit Dosanjh – bagged the title of India’s first ‘Rising Star’       on Sunday.

The 23-year-old competed with Delhi’s 16-year-old Maithili Thakur and Bengaluru’s 14-year-old Ankita Kundu to win the coveted trophy along, prize money of Rs 20 Lakhs and a playback singing contract with Vishesh Films in their upcoming film.

Dosanjh, who idealises Diljit as his inspiration, was pitted against Maithili, who stood second in the contest in the face-off. Ankita went on to become the second-runner up of the show which created history by becoming India’s first LIVE singing reality show.

The show had composer-singer Shankar Mahadevan, Monali Thakur and Diljit Dosanjh as experts on board.
