Samsung buys another AI firm to develop virtual assistant Bixby
Bixby understands the way you actually speak, ask questions and make requests.
New York: Smartphone leader Samsung recently bought another Artificial Intelligence (AI) company, Fluenty, aiming to bolster its virtual assistant Bixby, media reports have said.
Samsung hasn`t divulged much details of the acquisition as of now.
Fluenty is best known for its automated text replies for SMS and third-party social services like WhatsApp, Facebook Messenger, Telegram, Line, Kakao Talk, Naver Talk and more.
Moreover, Fluenty hugely relies on a deep learning model, searching for patterns in text replies most frequently used by people.
A virtual assistant like Bixby, with this acquisition, would look to eliminate competition from Apple and Google`s voice-only assistants.Fluenty`s app is no longer available on the Google Play store.
Bixby comes with a Quick Commands feature that allows customers to easily create a custom voice command to use in place of a sequence of one or more commands.
For example, one can use the command "good night" as a shortcut for "Turn on Do-not-disturb mode, set an alarm for 6 AM and turn on blue light filter."
Bixby understands the way you actually speak, ask questions and make requests.
For example, if you take a photo and then tell Bixby to "send the picture just taken to Mom", Bixby understands cross-application commands and will know which photo you are referring to and will text it to your mom.
