Chennai: Indian Police Service (IPS) officer Safeer Karim, aspiring to enter the Indian Administrative Service (IAS), was on Monday arrested for cheating in the civil services main exam. The police said that the officer was found with a Bluetooth equipment.
Safeer is currently an Assistant Superintendent of Police on probation in Tirunelveli district. Police said that he was caught talking to his wife in Hyderabad for answers.
He was arrested after a probe and charged under Section 420 of the IPC (cheating and dishonesty). A team of officers from Chennai will also be going to Hyderabad soon to arrest his wife.
Karim had also started a coaching institute, called Karim’s La Excellence, for other civil services aspirants as well. The coaching centre reportedly had branches in Thiruvananthapuram, Kochi, Calicut, Bhopal, and Hyderabad. He also organised orientation programmes for IAS aspirants.
He had earlier said that he became an IPS officer after getting inspiration from actor Suresh Gopi's heroic police officer roles in Malayalam films.
Having been caught, the officer's career may take a serious hit. He is likely to face disciplinary action, including dismissal from service.
