Ensure no agitation takes place over NEET: Supreme Court to Tamil Nadu govt

New Delhi: The Supreme Court on Friday directed the Tamil Nadu government to ensure no agitation takes place in the state over National Eligibility Cum Entrance Test (NEET) exam issue.

A bench headed by Chief Justice Dipak Misra said those involved any kind of agitation or stall normal life, appropriate action would be taken against them.

The SC directed the AIADMK government to book anyone involved in stalling normal life in the state over the NEET row.

Tamil Nadu has been rocked by protests with college students and cadres from various political parties demanding justice for S Anitha, the medical aspirant who committed suicide after failing to get admission to a medical college.

Anitha, who had scored 1,176 marks out of 1,200 in the plus two exams under the Tamil Nadu state board, was however not able to score high marks in the NEET to secure a medical seat, and committed suicide, her relatives said.

The 17-year-old Dalit girl had moved the Supreme Court against NEET-based medical examinations.

Anitha had approached the apex court in August opposing a plea seeking admissions to under graduate medical courses only on the basis of the NEET score.
