Wimbledon 2016: Sania Mirza-Martina Hingis crash out in quarters

New Delhi: In a major upset, defending champions Sania Mirza and Martina Hingis were stunned by the pair of Timea Babos and Yaroslava Shvedova in the Wimbledon 2016 women’s doubles quarters on Thursday.

Top seeds committed too many unforced errors which cost them dearly. After losing the first set 2-6, Indo-Swiss pair did fight back but Babos-Shvedova gave their best shot to win the next set 6-4.

Mirza-Hingis broke serve, and then consolidated the hold in the second set with a nice hold but two breaks in opponent’s kitty were too much to make up for towards the fag end of the set.

It's a disappointing outing for Indian tennis ace Mirza at the Wimbledon as she and her Croatian partner Ivan Dodig had made an early exit after losing their mixed doubles second round encounter in straight sets.

The fifth seeded Hungarian and Kazakhstani pair will next face tenth seeded United States` pairing of Raquel Atawo and Abigail Spears in the semi-finals.
