Roger Federer: Swiss legend sidelined for a month after undergoing knee surgery

New Delhi: After undergoing knee surgery, tennis ace Roger Federer has been ruled out of action for almost a month to recuperate from a torn meniscus.

Federer's agent at TEAM8, Tony Godsick confirmed the news to Reuters about the Swiss Maestro's current state on Wednesday.

The 34-year-old, who has record 17 grand slam titles under his belt, suffered the injury on the same day his Australian Open campaign came to an end in the semi-finals.

Off the court injury forced Federer to withdraw his name from the forthcoming World Tennis Tournament in Rotterdam and the Dubai Tennis Championships.

The Swiss Maestro also showed his disappointment to miss the events as he told Reuters that: "I am so disappointed to have to miss Rotterdam and Dubai as they are two of my favourite tournaments on the ATP World Tour. While this is an unfortunate setback, I feel grateful that up until now I have remained mostly healthy throughout my career.

"My doctors have ensured me that the surgery was a success and with proper rehabilitation, I will be able to return to the Tour soon."

The world number three, Federer has hardly missed any tournaments for health reasons during his remarkable 18-year professional career.
