New Delhi: PM Narendra Modi has been an outright supporter of Indian athletes at Rio Olympics, both before the commencement and conclusion of the quadrennial event.
India's performance in Rio might be considered as a debacle by media across the globe but the Indian Prime Minister has a different take.
Modi, especially lauded the performance by Indian women the the 2016 Games – Sania Mirza, Lalita Babar, Women's Hockey team, Aditi Ashok, PV Sindhu, Dipa Karmakar, Sakshi Malik – all punched above their weights.

The PM also highlighted the performances of Abhinav Bindra, Dattu Bhokanal, Men's hockey team; who might have failed to win medal but still delighted everyone with their performances.
Badminton coach Pullela Gopichand was also honoured by Narendra Modi in the show.
