New Delhi: Star boxer Vijender Singh is likely to make his pro boxing debut in India in May next year.

According to a report in the DNA newspaper, the 29-year-old's “fifth or sixth” fight will be in front of his home crowd.

“I will fight in India next year for sure. Maybe, my fifth or sixth fight will be in India,” Vijender told DNA.

“Look, it’s not easy to just go to India and organise a fight. There are lots of things that go behind it. So let’s see how things work out. I’m very hopeful that I will soon fight in India,” he further added.

The bout, believed to be a title fight, is likely to be held in New Delhi.

“The fight will take place in May next year. Also, it will mostly be a title fight. It will be held in New Delhi,” a source said.

“Vijender’s professional fights have been very well received in India. So, imagine the kind of excitement his fight will generate when he comes here. The organisers will make sure that they live up to that hype,” he further added.

Vijender turned pro in July and has won both his bouts. His third fight is scheduled for Saturday against Bulgarian Samet Hyuseinov.
