New Delhi: Indian Paralympic athlete Deepa Malik returned home on Saturday to a rousing welcome. She was recieved at the New Delhi T-3 Airport by her family members, Haryana sports minister and fans.

At the airport, she was escorted to a waiting vehicle even as folk dancers performed upon her arrival. Deepa's father Colonel BK Nagpal and her daughter were in tears when they met each other.

Deepa, a paraplegic and paralysed from waist down, became the first-ever woman from the country to win a medal at the Paralympics when she bagged a silver in the shot put F-53 event.

Deepa's best throw of 4.61m from her six attempts was enough to clinch the silver medal.

Later, she thanked everyone for giving her a warm reception.

India have secured three medal from the Rio Paralympics 2016.

Deepa's silver is India's third medal of the Games after Mariyappan Thangavelu and Varun Singh Bhati won gold and bronze respectively in men's high jump.
