PM Modi hosts Rio medallists PV Sindhu, Sakshi Malik, national sports awardees

New Delhi: On the eve of National Sports Day, Prime Minister Narendra Modi met athletes who have represented India at the recently concluded Rio Olympics 2016 at 7, Race Course Road on Sunday.
According to Sports Minister Vijay Goel, Modi also met Dhyan Chand awardees, Dronacharya awardees and Tenzing Norgay awardees.

Earlier today, during his 23rd Mann Ki Baat address, PM pledged for all-round development of sports in the country. He also paid rich tributes to the legendary hockey player Major Dhyan Chand and said that he was a live example of “sportsman spirit and patriotism”.
Every year, India celebrates Dhyan Chand's birthday as the National Sports Day.
“Tomorrow (Monday) August 29 is legendary hockey player Major Dhyan Chand's birth anniversary which is celebrated as national sports day. I pay him tributes and want you all to remember his contribution,” Modi said in his radio address.
