Awards come with responsibility, wrestler Sushil Kumar says after Padma Bhushan nomination

New Delhi: Celebrated Indian wrestler Sushil Kumar, who was nominated for the prestigious Padma Bhushan award, on Wednesday said that awards come with responsibility.

"If I get Padma Bhushan, I’ll feel proud that the nation loves me. Awards come with responsibilities," he told ANI.

The Wrestling Federation of India (WFI) recently nominated the 33-year-old for India's third-highest civilian honour.

Sushil is the only Indian athlete to have won two individual Olympic medals — a bronze in the 2008 Beijing Games and a silver in the 2012 London Games.

Besides, he is also a World Championships gold-medallist, a two-time Commonwealth Games gold-medallist and four-time Commonwealth champion.

But he missed the Rio Olympics 2016 as Narsingh Yadav was sent for the Games to represent India in men's 74kg freestyle category.

His name was previously recommended for Padma Bhushan two years ago but was rejected. He has already been awarded with the Khel Ratna award — the country's highest sporting honour.
