New Delhi: India striker Robin Singh had no I-League club by the time skipper Sunil Chhetri had dedicated Sunday's SAFF Cup victory to the injured player.
According to a report in the Hindustan Times, there is no clarity on who would take charge of Robin Singh’s treatment, which could involve a surgery.
Singh was injured in India's opening game against Sri Lanka in the SAFF Cup after scoring a brace.
Singh couldn’t return to I-League club Bengaluru FC because the side claims that Indian Super League franchise Delhi Dynamos didn’t complete the formalities of a tripartite agreement.
Mandar Tamhane, an official of Bengaluru FC, had stated that they couldn't have registered Singh because the tripartite agreement between Robin, Bengaluru and Delhi Dynamos hasn’t been signed.
The official added that the club have been repeatedly asking Delhi Dynamos to finish the agreement from around August 15. He also claimed that after Diwali, even the ISL had got involved because it had been agreed before putting the club's players up for auction for the ISL, that they would return to Bengaluru FC.
Further reports claim that, Tamhane's words indicated the Delhi Dynamos would have recovered Rs 35 lakh from Bengaluru FC had the loan agreement been completed. A part of that amount would also have gone to Robin Singh. Reports suggest that Dynamos paid Rs 51 lakh for the striker.
Singh had reported to Bengaluru FC after ISL 2015, despite not being a part of the side. Now it will be interesting to see whether the issue gets resolved quickly and Singh gets to don the Bengaluru FC jersey once again when he is rendered fit.
AIFF general secretary Kushal Das assured that the football body will take care of Singh's medical expenses should the need arise. The clubs are generally responsible for to take out insurance on their players.
