Bengaluru FC: Robin Singh's injury serves as a big concern for I-League outfit

New Delhi: Bengaluru FC, who have been served a big blow ahead of their I-League campaign will look to depend on star forward Sunil Chhetri to deliver the goods for them as in-form Robin Singh is expected to miss the entire season with a knee injury.

The Delhi Dynamos player was injured in the recently concluded SAFF Cup in India's opening tie against Sri Lanka. He was forced to miss the entire tournament following the nasty injury.

Robin Singh had been in good form since the Indian Super League after registering some good performances for the Dynamos. He scored four goals in 12 matches.

Robin Singh then made sure he got his form do the talking in the SAFF Cup. He got India ticking right from the opener and his presence made the difference after his brace saw India win against their neighbours.

Although the hosts did win the SAFF Cup beating Afghanistan, Robin Singh was missed.

Bengaluru FC coach Ashley Westwood had recently stated that if a surgery ends up fortunately for Robin, then he could possibly make a return within a month. Westwood had focused on the impact of a proper surgeon whose role would be crucial in getting Robin back to his feet.

Even if he gets fit before the season ends, it will be interesting to see whether he represents the I-League outfit given that the Delhi Dynamos having stated that he was looking for playing domestic football in a different country.

Robin has grown on to becoming a pivotal figure for India and the Delhi Dynamos. He has played a key role for Bengaluru in the last two seasons after scoring 16 goals across all competitions in 56 games.

Although Bengaluru do have several options upfront, Robin's miss is unfortunate for the side who are looking to win their 2nd I-League title. Robin has been playing consistently for all the sides he is representing and his experience is handy given his time in the I-League having earlier also played with East Bengal.
