EPL 2015-16: Five things we learned from Manchester United's 2-1 victory against Watford

New Delhi: Manchester United showed enough belief in the end to salvage a 2-1 victory at Vicarage Road against Watford in the English Premier League encounter on Saturday.

United went ahead with Memphis Depay scoring his first EPL goal with a sublime volley. Troy Deeney converted for Watford from the penalty spot to equalize in the 86th minute. Within a space of four minutes Deeney scored another goal, but this time in his own net after trying to rescue a Bastian Schweinsteiger's shot across goal.

Here are the five things we learned from the match.

David de Gea is a true hero: The Manchester United goalkeeper showed his skills as a top player once again after making some wonderful saves in the game. The best of the lot was parrying the ball away with his right hand fingertips after Almen Abdi hammered a low shot that looked like going in. De Gea also earlier made another fine save after tipping Deeney's powerful shot over the bar. De Gea has been pivotal for United's defensive plaudits this season.

Injuries keep piling up for United: United went into the game with six of their players injured and added two more on the casualty list. Ander Herrera who made the assist for Depay's goal, pulled a hamstring before Phil Jones who picked up a foot injury was replaced by Paddy McNair. United play in the UEFA Champions League next on November 25, and Louis van Gaal will hope some of his players return back.

Memphis Depay shows he is in the mix: The Dutchman had been limited to the bench since quite sometime with Anthony Martial and Jesse Lingaard given more priority. But the 21-year-old excelled in this rare start for him. Herrera swung a beautiful ball towards the near post, and Memphis guided a gentle volley into the top right. He also asked several questions to Watford goalkeeper Heurelho Gomes and showed the manager he deserves more chances.

United went off guard in second half: The hosts grew into the game in the second half and kept the pressure on United. Abdi, Deeney had some good chances on target but United managed to hold on before Marcos Rojo conceded a penalty. Moreover Van Gaal's switch of formation to three at the back didn't do enough good with his side looking vulnerable after gaps were opened up. United looked sleepy for most spells and Gaal will want to correct that.

Van Gaal's trust in youngsters a positive sign for United: Louis van Gaal showed once again that he has enough faith in youth as his young side managed to hold on for a win. Gaal fielded three of United's reserves players. Lingard started the game as Paddy Mcnair and Andreas Pereira was introduced as substitutes. Interestingly he also had two academy players in Sean Goss and Marcus Rashford who made the bench. Gaal's trust in young players have given the side more confidence.
