London: Manchester United manager Louis van Gaal has expressed his disappointment over midfielder Bastian Schweinsteiger's poor performance during his side's 2-3 defeat against top-placed Wolfsburg in their Champions League fixture.
Van Gaal admitted that Schweinsteiger, who was substituted by Michael Carrick in the 69th minute of the match, was not the same player he had seen at Bayern Munich.
Meanwhile, the 64-year-old manager also received fierce criticism from several former United players.
Former center-back Rio Ferdinand believes that United didn't deserve to qualify and admitted that Van Gaal might be under huge pressure.
Describing United as an `average` team, former mid-fielder Paul Scholes said that one can expect an average performance from an average team.
Reflecting his views on the same, the Dutchman said that although he cannot defend the growing criticism against him, his club performed better than last year, the Guardian reported.
Van Gaal, however, insisted that his side was in a good position in the Premier League and said that he hopes they would perform well in it.
With the defeat, United, who finished third in Group B, crashed out of the tournament and relegated to the Europa League.
